Checked the MODIS satellite fire permitter imagery and luckily the fire’s downwind and southeast of TBG’s Weston Peak terrain. Keeping our fingers crossed. Then (if that wasn’t a big enough relief), got this via email:
“I anticipate the District Ranger will send out a formal acceptance of your proposal and application, probably in the middle of August. That being said, I cannot guarantee anything, until you have received your permit in hand. I do anticipate that will occur before winter.
Again, this will be for a temporary permit (up to 2 years), and will only authorize 200 service days- thank you for the estimated use form.
PM checks look acceptable.
That finally leaves us with permission from Leadville. For that, the Forest Service will require documentation of an agreement with the Weston Pass Hut System, how many user days you are requesting, etc.”
It just so happens we had a conference call with the owner/operator 3 days ago! Next we just need to ink an agreement with the Weston Pass Hut system and then we can do overnights.
